Having a Say at School. Research on Pupil Councils in Scotland

The project’s objectives

  1. To provide a detailed mapping of current pupil councils in Scotland, and the local government/school infrastructure surrounding these councils
  2. To develop well-grounded information on the effectiveness of these councils, from the perspectives of adults involved and children and young people themselves
  3. To identify the factors that encourage and support effective pupil councils, i.e. ‘what works?’
  4. To investigate who is excluded and included by the different forms of participation
  5. To explore how pupil councils fit within the broader context of children and young people’s participation within schools
  6. To work with children, young people and adults to share what is learned from our research in order to help develop better pupil councils.
